Our heroine is a girl named Hina-chan and  she is in her 20s. Hina has always remember her first love, a boy named Itsuki. When other kids would tease Hina, calling her ugly, Itsuki would defend her, and try to cheer her up and make her feel better.  One day, Itsuki and some of his family moved away, leaving Hina heartbroken. But the memory of her first love has always made Hina feel happy inside.  The only family member,  Itsuki’s grandmother still lives next door to Hina, so she still has a connection to him, somehow.

One day, Hina has a dream of Itsuki, because she was really nostalgic about him. She was mentioning her dream to his grandmother, when they are interrupted by the arrival of a stranger. It is a tall, beautiful woman. Wait a minute… it’s Itsuki! He claimed that he’s a woman on the inside, and now he is dressing that way on the outside.

And yes, even though Itsuki now lives as a woman, Hina finds herself falling in love all over again, regardless of how Itsuki dresses. But Itsuki sees herself as a woman, and she only loves men. Will Hina end up heartbroken all over again?  [MangaUpdates]

CAG’s Impressions:

I really gotta see what’s the outcome of this story!

I’m not a BIG shoujo genre fan.  Sometimes the story can start good and then the main character – THE PROTAGONIST of the story does something stoopid, acts in a peculiar way or just does something stoopid [again].   But… I am a MangaWhore and I do my best that if I start a story, I complete.  What drew me to this particular read, wasn’t the shoujo aspect, but theGender BenderGenre aspectI’ve read (and/or reading) some Gender Bender manga that was good, funny and had the “I can read this over and over from time to time”  storyline to it.  Usually, Gender Bender revolves around thefemale main character.  In Half and Half, it’s theMale main character.  And that’s what made me pick up this read. 🙂

When they were kids, Itsuki had promised to marry Hina.  Now, in her twenties and has a cute boyfriend, she still thinks and dreams about Itsuki, and what would it be like if a 20-ish Itsuki walked back into her life… well he did come back though… with a twist:

Long flowing hair, femine features, long leggy-legs (LOL).  Yep, a real looker.

Itsuki has come back to live with his Grandmother.  His parents disowned him when he went back to them looking like a female.  With nowhere else to go, he returned to the home he grew up in before he and his parents moved away.   When the shock of the female Itsuki settled, Hana mentioned to Itsuki that when they were little, he had promised to marry her.

I guess she thought that statement would have made a profound effect on him and he would stop being the way he was?

Itsuki laughed it off.  He replied that he didn’t know what the word “married” meant when they were little.  Afterwards, Hina got really upset and called him a jerk and confessed that he was her first crush and stormed off.

Itsuki’s grandmother went to Hina’s house later that evening to give back a plastic container.  Hina asked Obaa-san if she was okay with Itsuki staying with her the way that he is.  She replied that he was her only grandchild and she welcomed him — no matter what way he was.  Obaasan told Hina about Itsuki’s situation at his parent’s home.  Now, that the two of them had fought, he had no one else to rely on in the town.  The next day walking past Obaasan’s house, Hina got accidentally sprayed by water because  Itsuki was watering the lawn.  Sitting down and letting her clothes and hair dry, Itsuki apologized to her.  He stated that he didn’t know that he was her first crush and it probably wasn’t a good idea seeing her first crush cross-dressing.  Hina replied that her boyfriend said the same thing.  Itsuki was happy for her when she told him it was Aoyama Takashi, a boy whom was in Itsuki’s class.   To Hana surprise, Itsuki confessed thatTakashi was his first crush!  So… Itsuki liked boys from a young age.  Ha!  He begged Hina to let him meet Takashi.  She said she would if he promisednot to take Takashi from her.  That night at a restaurant, she introduced Itsuki to Takashi as a relative of a friend.

Asmall realization hit Hina that Itsuki really do like boys and she wondered would Takashi fall for him. Feeling confused, she excused herself and went to the bathroom. While she was gone, Takashi asked Itsuki if he[she] had a boyfriend, wanted Itsuki’s address and asked if they could meet up the next time.  Takashi was a little player, he wanted to make him pay for it.  When Hina came back to their booth, Itsuki let her know that Takashi asked him out and would she mind if he accept.  Hina got upset and shouted at him that he was not supposed to steal her boyfriend away.  Itsuki grabbed Takashi’s cellphone and commented that he was probably cheating on her.  He told Hina to hurry and take a look.  There were other girls messages on his phone and each had a number of stars next to their names. Hina only had one!  Itsuki told her she needed to look in a guy’s eyes.  Takashi commented that thefools are easy to trick and she should appreciate that he asked her out. Itsuki let it out the bag that he was a male and Takashi was desperate to hit on the gay men too.  He threw liquid in Takashi’s face and left the restaurant with Hina.

Hina cried on the way back.  She thanked him for what he did for her and again, Itsuki mentioned that she shouldn’t have met her first crush.  Later, Itsuki stopped by dressed as a guy!

He asked if this was the “grown up Itsuki” Hina imagined and apologized for crushing her “first crush” memories.  He was only playing ‘dressed up’ at the moment for her and then he said goodnight.  Hina wanted him to stay dressed as a male for a little while longer and tried to detain him from leaving.  He snatched the wig off and told her no; he couldn’t stand being dressed as a male.   And the shoujo bug took a huge bite out of Hina’s arse because she thinks maybe (maybe?) she still like Itsuki.

So, as I stated at the beginning of the post, I’ll keep reading this because

I really want to know how the mangaka finishes this story!

I mean really!  Hina’s in her twenties and still crushing HARD on her first crush to the point where she had some failed relationships due to it. Shoujo!  Even seeing Itsuki cross-dressed as a woman, him identifying himself as being a woman, she’s still have deep down feelings for him…Shoujo!

I don’t know how to rate this, so it’s going to be on the low side… I recommend that you check it out for yourselves.  But I shall continue reading because Ireally want to know where the Mangaka takes this read!

Alrighty… happy reading to ya.  😉

Right!  I’ve written a review relating to Shoujo.  Yay for me.  😛
