However, when school isn’t going as she expected, and she isn’t as popular as she had thought she was, she takes a look at herself in the mirror for the first time in a few years, and has some shocking revelations…  [MangaUpdate]

CAG Impressions:

Diamond in the rough…

Talk about grand delusions!  The female protagonist of the story, Kuroki Tomoko is such a character!  The story starts off with her looking up the definition ofMojoand when she comes to it’s findings

Definition of Mojo:

She proclaims that the definition applies to other girls and not herself.  She even brag about how in middle school, she has talked to a guysix times!    [Even though one of the questions that was asked, what’ s the next class.]  Now Tomoko is about to enter High School and she’s anticipating great things to happen to her.

  • she was going to be “Miss Popular”
  • she was going to ‘get in the pants of boys’

because she haslived 50 years in Otome games and has dated 100 guys…  therefore, she’s well prepared!   But in the interim, she’s patiently waiting for her debut as a high school student!!!

Two months into the school term,

Tomoko hasn’t held a conversation with anybody…

As we read the pages, we see our lead protagonist sitting by herself eating lunch and has her head deep into a book and trying to figure out what has gone wrong.  But it’s okay though; she still has time to be that ‘social butterfly.’  Heck; already, she’s starting to get along with other boys, and she even took a picture of her classmates at a Karaoke bar.

There no way on this side of the Earth she’s fugly!

Listening to a group of classmates having a conversation, she told herself that she was not frustrated.

She looks frustrated to me.No?  To make herself feel better, she trashed-talked the girl that was the center of the group and conversation.  Telling herself that the girl was only thinking about guys and guys who hung out with such a b*tch like her was were trash anyway.  There was no way she wanted to be grouped with them.  It’s not that she didn’t want to be in a group, she enjoyed the company of – herself.[Uh-huh]

Putting on make-up, wearing short skirt and flirting with guys is what a Town Bike does.  Those character-less girls can have their cliché high school life for all I care. —Kuroki Tomoko

Of course all of that was lies and the frustration grew like a open sore.

At home, she played with one of her games and when it wasn’t satisfying her, she threw it on the bed, took off her clothes and put on her school uniform.  Everything that she had said in school about make-up-short-skirt girls, she was implementing that on herself.

The End Result:

Tomoko took a good look at herself in the mirror and it caused her to throw up.  It’s been a few years since she look in the mirror and she realized that she had turned into a creepy entity.  She barely recognize her own face!  But yet, she questioned if she was still cute and not ugly.  It would definitely be an insult to thereal fugly girls if someone called her ugly.

The delusions are hitting poor Tomoko over the head…hard!  Is a break down on the horizon for Tomoko?  In a desperate attempt, she got online to find ways to make herself more prettier.  She wants the boys to look at her.

Meanwhile, her little brother has come home from school and he turns to face someonethat’s supposed to be his sister, but look like a complete stranger.    A bit frightened, he yelled

What the.. You’re Hella Ugly!

Then he realized it was Tomoko and told her not to scare him like that.  And this concludes the end of Chapter 1.

Thus far, I found this read to be quite interesting.  In a sense, I want to look at it as a “Ugly Duckling” Paradigm and have hopes that she does turn into the beauty she sorely desires, and on the other hand, after reading the first two chapters, it has me wondering if she’s heading for a break down.  Will she become a shut-in, will some hand reach out to her and make her believe that she’s okay the way she is… These are some questions I want an answer to!

It’s like this story can go several directions and I’m sooooooooooo looking forward to reaching the outcome/climatic end of the story.  I really wouldn’t deem this as being a comedic read, but it does has it’s moments.  It’s really about a young girl trying to find her own niche in high school and being happy.

And I’m cheering for this lead female character!!!

Thanks Mochi-mochifor recommending this read to me!

Itotallyrecommend this read.  After reading some chapters, drop me a comment and share your thoughts on it.  K?  K!

Tomoko’s ‘readable’ facial tells it all and I like how the Mangaka puts emphasis on it.  I can see this being made into a Anime Series.

This read is done by two groups and I believe one group,World Threehas taken over for it.  Will post the link on the LL page… but you can read it online atBatoto.
