Supporting Scanlators ‘the right way…’

True Confession:

I was a avid online manga reader… the end.

However, I would flock to an manga online reader site to get my fill of manga/manhwa that I’m currently reading, and I was noticing:

the online readers were either: (a)  blurring out the scanlator’s url or (b) covering their url with their own watermarks or even taking out the page that informs the reader of the Scanlator Group who put out the chapter or chapters!

C’mon guys… that’s not right!

I’ve been reading on some scanlator’s sitesrantsabout these practices of the online readers…

From one site in particular: Evil Flowers.

I’ve felt bad because I’m guilty for going to these sites.

So, as an avid reader/buyer of manga/manhwa/manhua, I made the choice toremove all links of Online readers from the blogroll.  I will continue to add as many groups to theLinkie-Linkspage as possible.

There’s always a remedy toeverything!

  1. Scanlators** now have their own online readersthat you can go to,

Batoto is an online community that’s forthe Scanlators.

Scanlations exist because there is no other way. Without scanlations much of the world populous would be unable to read your favorite comics, whether it be a manga (Japanese), manhwa (Korean), manhua (Chinese) or any other origin, due to barriers of language and barriers of finances. Today, nearly half of the population lives on less than $2 a day. Ordering a comic that you cannot read from a country far away is just not possible for many of us. I’m sure you’ve had moments where you laughed and cried (or you didn’t read enough!) as you read them. But the joy that it brought to you is a moment that everyone deserves and a moment that we hope to share.–Batoto – [Source: Batoto is…]

2.   Another way to find out about a manga that you like is

One of the best places to find out a title and what group is scanlating.

I’m not asking anyone to condemn nor condone… just decide for yourself.

That’s it in a nutshell.

*Batoto gives you the option to create an account.
**Some groups requires you to register on their site or forums before you can download their chapters.

Other than trying to be a Normal Human Being, I'm all about Manga, Anime, blogging, online friends and a big cup of Coffee!!!

  • If they’re really into creating scanlations for helping people to read manga that they couldn’t, then yes they could use some support. if they create scanlations because they think that’s how manga should be, then I have no sympathy for them if their name or URL is removed.

Many reader sites don’t care for the copyright holders, mangaka, or scanlation groups. They’re in it for the money or fame. Your plea will not reach to the people who do such.
